Nestled in the northwest end of the Sunriver resort community near the Benham and Dillon Falls trail, the Sunriver Bittern Lodge is a lavish lodge-style home featuring 8 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, and a game room. Bittern Lane #5 is a luxury rental home perfect for large gatherings such as family reunions, men’s and women’s retreats, couples ski trips, weddings, corporate business retreats, and church getaways. Don’t worry about those hot summer days as this home is equipped with A/C. The Bittern Lodge is a welcome retreat for your four-legged family members too!


With over 5,000 square feet of living space contained within a mere two levels, this superb home will accommodate your large group effortlessly. The eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms give the needed space and privacy for a group of couples or singles looking to enjoy a weekend escape among friends. Six master bedrooms feature five king-sized beds and one queen. The two bunk bedrooms offer plenty of sleeping arrangements, one bunk room has one set of bunks, while the other bunk room has three sets of bunks. All of the bunk beds feature a twin bunk on top of a double-sized lower bunk making it much roomier than typical bunk bedroom sets. Each room has a TV and DVD player, along with an attached bathroom and shower, two of the master bathrooms have soaker tubs, while five of the bathrooms have dual tub showers. When it’s time to retire at Bittern Lodge, pick your room. Don’t worry, they are all dreamy! If you organized the entire trip, you deserve one of the two master bedrooms that have luxurious bathrooms with soaker tubs. After a long day, allow yourself to decompress soaking in your favorite bubble bath, your favorite glass of wine, while reading your favorite book. The perfect way to rejuvenate for another day of action-packed activities with your group.

The extravagant great room, dining, and kitchen area will take your breath away. The floor-to-ceiling slate rock fireplace and hearth encases a built-in gas fireplace, an entertainment center that includes a large 65-inch flat screen 4K OLED SMART TV and DVD player, along with a Bluetooth soundbar allowing you to stream movies with your devices. Books line the shelves for those cooler days when reading by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa sounds like more fun than a brisk walk outdoors.

The gourmet kitchen is a cook's dream. This well-appointed kitchen is equipped with everything you need to make the perfect dinner for the entire group. It features a gas range, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances with dual dishwashers, regular and Keurig-style coffee pots, dual ovens, two refrigerators, a 10 ft. countertop bar space, and two ice makers making it very easy to prepare meals for your large group. The 12-foot-long pine dining table and a matching mini version kid's table everyone to sit down and have a meal together.

After dinner, enjoy competitive fun playing billiards in the upstairs bonus room, ping-pong or foosball in the garage, corn hole on the back patio, or cards and board games in the great room. When it is time to take a load off, settle in with a bowl of popcorn for an after-dinner movie, or stock the wet bar with snacks and beverages and let the kids have free reign while the adults head to the hot tub to enjoy a nice soak under the Milky Way.

There are 16 Unlimited SHARC passes available with this home which allows you access to the SHARC water facility, free tennis, free pickleball, free disc golf, and free access to the Sunriver Marina.

They have thought ahead to what it takes to host a large group in a home - bed/bath ensuites w King Beds, bunk room, two dishwashers, two refrigerators, table seating 12, large kitchen with island for the family to gather and cook together, the most fully equipped kitchen we have ever experienced in a large home rental. Plus a beautiful location at the edge of the resort near the National Forest. And ping pong, pool, foosball and bikes. So much fun, food, conversations and memories took place.   We had a wonderful winter adventure. With plenty of snow all around, snow forts were built and snow ball fights followed. Mornings spent ice-skating, and afternoons in the pool,and then time in the hottub. The kitchen crew was thankful for the 2 dishwashers! Our only problem was with the dryer, it could only dry 3 or 4 towels at a time.

It was lovely but we felt like the kids could also be kids and we didn’t have to worry about things being damaged because the furniture was so sturdy. They had the best time! The house was clean, FULLY stocked and the rental company was easy to work with. It was very quiet being that it was on the north end, but still a bike ride away to some things. We really enjoyed our stay! The weather in October ended up being amazing as well, so that was a bonus.

  We truly enjoyed our stay at Bittern 5! The house is clean, well equipped, and has plenty of space for a large group. All of the bedrooms have their own baths with one bath on each floor also accessible from the hall. The pool table was used every night, and having the bikes was a huge hit with the whole family. It was fantastic to be able to look out the back windows and see nothing but the National Forest! A very quiet section of Sunriver with easy access to the river as well as the other amenities. We loved our stay!

  Our family reunion/snow play was a terrific experience for all with fresh snow on second day! Accommodations exceeded expectations including travel crib. Public spaces big enough that all could gather together comfortably; we've stayed in other large vacation rentals that couldn't seat all for meals and the two dishwashers made cleanup a snap. Location fine for winter but might be a bit far to village for younger bikers. Hot tub could be larger which made for alternating combos: SHARC passes were much appreciated by those not heading to mountain. Due to all the great bicycles in the garage, there was only space for one SUV but were still able to park six various sized vehicles.

As much as we appreciate and enjoy the house, we love love love Sunset Lodging Management. When Bittern #5 has been booked, we’ve had to venture out to other homes and the customer service falls short of what we enjoy with Sunset Lodging. They are so organized, responsive and friendly!!   This was our 34th annual golf getaway with all of our high school and college buddies. We've tried to find houses over the years that will sleep up to 16 (or more) comfortably. Bittern 5 is the perfect house for our group, and we plan to stay there again. Super large and very comfortable with plenty of space for a large group. Nice, sturdy furniture throughout and I had no complaints about any of the beds. Our group has discussed making this house the HQ for our annual event, as I'm sure there isn't a bigger or better rental at Sunriver.

The house is well maintained and updated as well as stocked with everything you need from cooking, to bikes, to pool towels, etc. It’s located in SunRiver, which is convenient for so many activities, but it’s also private since it’s located at the northern end.
  
  During our visits we’ve golfed, floated on the Deschutes river, done the
  Paulina Plunge, checked out the lava tubes, rented ATVs, and explored Bend. There is so much to do for all interests and ages. Already planning our next visit!

  Myself and 11 other guy have had our annual Sun River long weekend for a number of years and this is one of the best places we have had. We were allowed to check in early as we had an afternoon tee time and wanted to get our provisions stored away. Everyone had there own room and it was convenient to all the activity's we had planed. The only thing I can say negative was that one of the two dishwashers in the place wasn't working which really wasn't a problem for our group. We plan on booking this same house next year.

  The property was amazing! It accommodated all of us perfectly. The rooms were creatively decorated and fit the personality of the individuals who stayed in them quite well.
  The house was clean, we ended up moving a children’s table and there were cheerios underneath it. Other than that, the facility was perfect.
  There were a few issues while there with the upstairs bathroom, but they were fixed promptly! We had a few issues with the kitchen: both refrigerators froze our vegetables, when running the toasters and a coffee pot – we blew the breaker, and the oven didn’t cook evenly. Other than that there are no complaints about the maintenance!
  Customer service was amazing! I asked a million questions and got prompt precise responses.
  Not only would we recommend the property, several of us agreed to come back next year!

  Beautiful home. Easily accommodates 20. Kitchen has absolutely every appliance, bowl, cup, plate, silverware, baking dish and pan you could possibly need. It' very well stocked.
  Sleeping arrangements are great for a large family or 6 couples.
  
  Could have used more towels. There was only 1 per person and we were there for 5 days. A couple per person would have been nice.
  
  The best part of the experience was with Christa and Emilie at Sunset Lodging. They were GREAT ! Very accommodating and extremely helpful. I will rent from Sunset again and highly recommend them.

  This is a great, newer, large capacity vacation home rental. With 8 bedrooms and 8 baths (including two bedrooms with multiple beds for families or kids), and lots of space (two dining areas, two gathering areas, etc.), this is a great retreat location. In our case we had 8 golfers for a fantastic week of golf in the Bend area.

  I would highly recommend this home. It is large and spacious. There are 8 bedroom suites, each with their own bathroom. We sat all 17 of us comfortably around the dinning room table. The kitchen is spacious with every pot,pan, utensil, dish, mug, glass you need, a large double sink and two dishwashers. A second refrigerator is in the garage. The Vacation Rental Management staff is wonderful, fulfilling every request for extra banquet tables, folding chairs, and extra maps. They were always very personable, helpful and quick to reply to emails. There is a spacious breakfast bar which made our two catered dinners easy to set up and serve. There is easy access to the clean hot tub. The location is great with easy access to the Sharc Water Park, the High Desert Museum, the Observatory, the Village, and many beautiful hiking trails such as the Lava Cast Loop, the Lava Beds and Benham Falls and the Bend Costco.

  This house is very well designed. It's very large yet you don't spend time running from one end to the other. We used all of the space, kids spent a lot of time in the game room. And downstairs we could all be together but not feel cramped. It's a little far from activities but I preferred that because of the backyard view where you can not see any other homes. It was nice to come home to a peaceful place after a full day. The kitchen is so well equipped, they should make a Youtube video of how to stock a vacation rental kitchen. We made 20 meals that week and didn't miss a thing. Great home. We loved it.

  The property description and photos were accurate. The house was clean and well organized. The kitchen cupboards were well stocked and labeled for contents. The two coffee pots, two refrigerators, and two dishwashers were well used. The dining area was spacious and easy to set up for buffet meals. The downstairs living room was spacious with great ambiance for our meetings. The bedrooms were lovely and the attached bathrooms well supplied. Sunset Lodging replied quickly to my many questions and met my every request. I would highly recommend this property. Our group normally goes to a different place every year but voted 100% to break tradition and return to this house next year. We especially enjoyed going to the Observatory and the Thrift Shop that supports it, the High Desert Museum, Sharc Park, and hiking the Lava Beds. Ken Clark's Cascade Catering in Bend supplied 3 delicious dinners. The Sunriver Grill Restaurant had great food at a reasonable price and very friendly service.

  We loved our stay in Sun River! The house fit all 20 of us comfortably and never felt crowded. Clearly well designed for big groups with great touches like 2 dishwashers, lots of bikes and a huge kitchen table. Fantastic that each bedroom had en suite bathrooms with some having a hallway access as well. The "dorm" room was big enough for 6 adults and could fit more. I liked my bed but my sister didn't like the upstairs "master". Overall clean, comfortable, fantastic!

  This is the second time staying at the Bittern Lodge. We love the fact that our whole extended family can stay here! It has a wonderful bunk room for the kids, and every couple gets a master suite. This year we seemed to have stayed at the house when it was in need of a tune up. Every bathroom tub was clogged;the hot tub was not working properly;the garage door stopped working. All of these were addressed, and very promptly and efficiently. I think the house should be checked more often for things like this.

  This a a good sized house and everything was nice and clean. The issues I have are 1) the "resort and promotion" fee that was not disclosed on VBRO but showed up on my bill to the tune of and additional $269.38 for three nights, plus a WHOPPING $350 cleaning fee which was just silly (this house is not that big so that's just gouging) and 2) most of the TVs were not flat screens. They were these TVs from the 90s with tiny screens. Basically, they were worthless, you'd have to pay someone to take them. At this rate, you'd expect to be able to watch TV in your bedroom.
  
  As I said, the house is well appointed otherwise. Plenty of seating although there was not a ottoman to be found in the house which was really odd. After a long day of skiing as we did (or golfing like I presume others do) you want to kick you feet up in the great room. No such luck here.
  
  The really bonus here is the kitchen facilities. Everything you could want to cook and serve a lot of people easily. More plates and glasses (that actually match) then any VBRO I've ever rented. Cooking utensils galore so you're covered there. They even had a coffee grinder. Couple this with two dishwashers and you're set to eat in every night.
  
  The rooms are big and bathrooms are too. I was the one unfortunate enough to get the woodpecker room. Probably should get more aggressive in thwarting that little bugger as it has pecked a hole clean through the siding.

    We are so delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Bittern 5. As I'm sure you can tell, Bittern 5 is one of our Premier Homes and the Owners visit regularly to make sure that things are perfect for their guests! The Owners have just updated the Sound System and will be over next week to look at the TV and Ottoman suggestions that you had. Regarding that pesky little woodpecker; we are aware of the situation and will continue our efforts. Some of the environmental protection issues make it a little harder, but know that we are working on it! We have found that when booking through third parties, sometimes the fees can get clouded and confusing. As far as the $350 cleaning fee, Bittern 5 is 5200 sq.ft. that sleeps 20, has 8 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms and takes a tremendous amount of effort to clean. In the future we would invite you to book directly through Sunset Lodging. Our travel planners are great resources for any questions you may have about your stay as well. My only suggestions are it's priced quite high to the point that we couldn't rent this every year and it would be nice to have a completely separate 1/2 bath on the main level.

  Bittern 5 is a spacious home on the very northern edge of the Sunriver property which provided a more private and relaxing space than most other homes. We enjoyed the large open living/dining/kitchen area and the deck and hot tub that looked out onto the open woods. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. The only drawbacks were that there was no working stereo equipment to play music, and the home was rather expensive, relative to others. If you have a large group, I'd recommend this home!

  Our family is scattered from Colorado to Hawaii so Sun River seemed like a logical central location for a reunion and we couldn't have been happier with the choice. The Bittern 5 condo was the perfect gathering spot...beautiful, spacious, wonderfully equipped with ping pong and pool tables, bikes, games, fireplace, patio, hot tub, two dish washers and refrigerators, and ample bedrooms and bathrooms. With 11 adults, 7 kids and three dogs we were able to spread out comfortably and enjoy all that this property has to offer.... really one of our best reunions. The area has a great aquatic center, convenient village with restaurants, shops and kids amusements as well as miles of paved bike paths and river access for lazy floating and canoeing...and Bends is just 20 minutes away with even more amenities. Loved it!

  Having rented Bittern #5 many of times during Thanksgivings in the past we simply love this house. It works well for us. We love to cook and the expansive kitchen and island counter allows us to spread out. We usually cook 2 turkeys, one in the oven and one on the gas grill. With a huge downstairs area we can with large groups stay separated and not feel squeezed. All the rooms are great and have their own full bathroom. The people at Sunset Lodging are the friendliest and most helpful. TS
